ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The GBI continues to question witnesses after an Albany man, arrested and tased by Dougherty County Police, died in the back of a police cruiser.

Investigators say they're still awaiting autopsy results for 36-year old Denevious Thomas. They say they may have to wait for toxicology results to understand why Thomas died and that could take several weeks to a month.

Thomas led police on a pursuit through his southside neighborhood around 2:00 yesterday morning. He crashed at the intersection of Sunny Lane and Jefferies Avenue and jumped out and ran. Police tased Thomas twice.

He died a short time later in the back of a Dougherty County Police car. Officer Lynn Davis, Officer Matt Stone, and Supervisor Lt. Mike Wood are on paid leave pending the investigation's outcome.
