APD, Cadets reach out on Thanksgiving

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Albany Police and their Americorps Cadets make sure their friends in Albany Housing having a Happy Thanksgiving.

Wednesday afternoon, APD officers and Americorps Cadets put on a full Thanksgiving meal for more than 20 senior citizens who live in Albany Housing Authority homes.

The meal included turkey and dressing, vegetables, bread, and desert. The cadets say the seniors they work with have become their friends.  

 "They really can't get out and do as much, so we come over and help them out in the neighborhoods. They pretty much give us a lot of appreciation. They show us a lot of appreciation, so we want to give them thanks today," said Albany Police Americorps Cadet Rayshon Mathis.

The cadets also hosted a bingo game for their friends after the Thanksgiving lunch.

They also prepared plates of food and took them to shut-ins who could not attend this event.
