DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Dougherty County, GA (WALB) –   Dougherty County Police are investigating the theft of a family's goats. The owner thinks hunters shot them.

James Milledge says his wife heard several gunshots late one afternoon last week, then his four pet goats went missing.

The Milledge family has owned the goats for almost three years. Milledge says the goats would leave their pen behind his house but always came home at night. He's sure those gunshots were hunters killing them.

"Yea, those are family pets. They are family pets. And I couldn't understand why they killed them. I don't understand why they would come on my property and kill those goats."

Milledge's wife got a tag number of the hunter's car seen on their property.

The car owner was issued a criminal trespass warning but was not charged with killing the animals.
