ALBANY, GA (WALB) –WALB T-V and the Salvation Army would like to thank all our viewers who donated so generously to our Fifth Annual Food Drive last week.
Monday morning we delivered a van load of food we collected to the Salvation Army headquarters in Albany. You donated six pallets of non-perishable food products.
The Salvation Army emptied many of their shelves to prepare Thanksgiving dinner packs for people in need.
This food will restock the soup kitchen pantry and be used to prepare more than 200 food baskets for Christmas.
Salvation Army Family Store Manager Crystal Kegler said "It's going to help a lot. There are a lot of people that are in need. This year and past years because of the recession, but it will help out a whole lot."
WALB Account Executive Chad Schwartz said "This way we can give back to the Salvation Army, who fills a great need in the community for homeless people and people that are hungry."
Currently the Salvation Army soup kitchen is preparing two meals a day, six days a week, for almost 80 people per day.
The food you donated will go a long way toward fighting hunger in the community and giving Holiday cheer to families in need.
