ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The National Retail Federation expects gift cards to be up this year.

On average, it expects people to spend $145 on gift cards this holiday season compared to $139 last year.

Most shoppers say they'll give friends or family cards to department stores or restaurants but others will choose bookstores, electronic stores or entertainment venues like the movie theater.

We spoke to one shopper who says gift cards top his list.

"You don't have to go out and look for gifts because it's quicker and easier," said Joshua Maxwell.

Consumers are expected to spend more than $24 billion on gift cards this year.
