ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Civil Rights Freedom Rider, who protested segregation at the Albany train depot nearly 60-years ago, returned to that spot Thursday night.

Thronateeska Heritage Center at the train station hosted the Freedom Riders celebration. Two Riders shared memories from their journey on the Georgia Railroad from Atlanta to Albany.

One woman showed letters written to her on toilet paper and paper towels while she was in the Dougherty County Jail.

Thronateeska, The Civil Rights Institute, Albany State, and the Georgia Humanities Council sponsored the 2-day Freedom Riders celebration.
