ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Veterinarians say this has been the worst snake bite season they've seen in Georgia.

Just this week, one Albany Veterinarian treated two pets for snake bites.

Dr. Charles Deriso says they see as many as 40 cases a summer, mostly hunting dogs who get bit when they poke their nose where they shouldn't. He recommends a rattlesnake vaccine for animals in areas that see a lot of rattle snakes.

"Particularly it works for Diamondback and Timber Rattlers it also has some effectiveness against a Copperhead and it is very effective," said Dr. Charles Deriso, of Dockery, Williams, Odom, Deriso.

In metro Atlanta, there's a shortage of AntiVenin, but Deriso says there's a good supply here in south Georgia. It's expensive. It can cost between $500.00 and a $1,000.00 a dose.
