ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – An attempted armed robbery ended very badly for two robbers at a west Albany home early Thursday morning just before 1 AM.

Police say Charles Carswell, Cliff Carswell, Brian Hatcher, William Connell and Daniel McDougland were playing cards and pool inside a small house behind the main house at 4412 Woodcrest Drive when two men with guns stormed in and demanded money.

Without hesitation, William Connell pulled out his own gun and started shooting.

He shot Carl Jackson and Kenneth Gay, who police say were attempting to rob the card players.

Jackson was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Gay later showed up at Palmyra Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Carl Jackson is charged with armed robbery, burglary, and aggravated assault, and  Kenneth Gay is charged with armed robbery, and burglary.
