ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Dougherty County and Albany City Commissioners salute the Neighborhood Watch programs for their help fighting crime.

More than a dozen neighborhood watch program captains were recognized in proclamations from city and county officials.

Commissioners say Police can't protect the community alone, and dedicated Neighborhood Watches make a big contribution to community safety.

Neighborhood Watch Captain Jim Balch said "I feel it has made a great difference. We have had minimal crime. We have had everyone in our neighborhood tending to watch out for everybody else, and it's worked out well for everybody."

This is the second year that November 22nd has been declared Neighborhood Watch Association Day.
