Posey received 20 of 32 first place votes to beat out Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward and several other candidates in a crowded field of contenders.
Posey from Leesburg was called up by the Giants on May 29th.
In 108 games, Posey batted .305 with 18 homeruns and 67 runbs batted in with .357 on base percentage and .505 slugging percentage.
He was named the National League rookie and the player of the month in July.
Posey is on vacation this week but told WALB News 10 Sports prior to Saturday's FSU/Clemson football game that he would be honored to win this award after his team was able to win the World Series.
Buster Posey said."Anytime in a year where you can win the world championship the individual honors are probably a little bit better. Because if you don't win, you like the individual honors but your ultimate goal is to still get that World Series."
Relief pitcher Nefftali Feliz of the Texas Rangers wins the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
