ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia  heroes celebrated Veterans Day with special meals.

Applebee's was one of several chains offering deals to veterans. The Albany restaurant was packed with veterans and their families.

Ellis Hanks enjoyed dinner with his wife. He told us he feels honored to receive recognition.

"It feels great and it gives me goose bumps all over again," said Hanks. "It brings up that sense of pride for the time I served my country."

Hanks served 21 years in the U.S. Army.
