ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Former South Georgia Peanuts manager Wally Backman remains in the hunt to be the next manager for the New York Mets.
Backman had an interview with new Mets general manager Sandy Alderson last weekend. The Bergen, New Jersey Record is reporting Wednesday Backman will get a second interview for the job. Backman managed the Mets short A-league team in Brooklyn to a division title and league championship series this year. Backman was hired to manage the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004 but was fired days after when the team learned about personal problems in Backman's life. Backman returned to the dugout when he was named the Peanuts manager in 2007 and then managed the Joliet Jackhammers.
