ALBANY,  GA (WALB) –  Albany Marines celebrated with the rest of the world, cutting a cake to honor the 235th birthday of the Marine Corps.

Marines from both MCLB Albany and Marine Corps logistics command celebrated the special day.

"I think the birthday ball is always emotional for all marines. And it's exciting at the same time," said LOGCOM Chief of Staff Col. Ben Braden.

"Today is a great day to celebrate the birth and remember our past. But again my challenge to you is to take that path and make sure we use it to build on the future," said LOGCOM Commanding General Maj. Gen. James Kessler.

The birthday cake is traditionally cut with a sword as a reminder that the Corps is a band of warriors.

The ceremony also featured music, inspirational speeches and a uniform pageant showing how Marine uniforms have transformed throughout history.
