SALE CITY, GA (WALB) – A 50-year-old Pelham  man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a commercial truck ran a stop sign and struck his car in Sale City.

It happened at the intersection of Highways 37 and 93 around 4 o'clock.

Troopers say the Joe Frank Adams heading west on Highway 37 when his Chevy Malibu was struck by a large commercial truck.

"The operator of the commercial motor vehicle was not familiar with the area. He was not familiar with this intersection and just ran through the stop sign," said Sr. Trooper Glenn Morgan, Georgia State Patrol.

Adams was dead when emergency responders arrived at the scene. The driver of the truck, Kerry Mullins, wasn't hurt.

The Florida native was hauling an empty load in the International truck licensed to a hardwood supply company.

Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the crash.

It isn't clear if speed played a factor in the wreck. Officials say Adams was wearing his seatbelt.

So far, no charges have been filed against the driver.
