LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) –  A huge marijuana grow house bust in Lowndes County. Hundreds of marijuana plants were seized in what investigators call the largest operation in the county's history.

Suspects identified-- Gilberto Martinez was born in September, 1964 and provided an address in Coral Gables, Florida.  He is charged with Trafficking marijuana, Manufacturing marijuana and Possession of Marijuana.

Carol Fernandez was born in June, 1966 and provided an address in Coral Gables, Florida.  She is charged with Trafficking marijuana and Manufacturing marijuana. Both remain in the Lowndes County Jail as no bond has been set as of yet.

They estimate the plants produced more than $10 million in pot over the last year, and you won't believe what they used to alert them if someone came on their property.

Pots were filled with marijuana plants. Lowndes County investigators uncovered close to 900 hydroponic plants in seven rooms inside a grow house on Howell Road.

"It's the largest in South Georgia," said Sheriff Chris Prine. "It's the largest south of Atlanta we're familiar with."

This entire property was used to produce millions of dollars in marijuana in the last year. More than 55 pounds of dried marijuana was also found.

The growers used geese as an alarm system. Six wells provided water for the plants. Dangerous wiring covers the ceiling and walls.

"They'd come in crop their grow and leave and check their water system and fertilizer and just keep the grow going," said Prine.

The front door was the only way to get into the house. Behind every other door and window of this highly sophisticated operation was a wall.

Two people from Coral Gables, Florida were taken into custody Monday night when authorities were watching the house. They're being questioned. Investigators plan to charged them with trafficking and manufacturing marijuana.

The house is owned by MLR Investment Group from Coral Gables, Florida.
