ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Many people are beginning to use their heating system for the first time this season.
Safe Aire Heating and Cooling recommends people replace their air filters at the appropriate time, whether it's the 30 day or three month filter.
They advise regular service checks during the fall and spring. It's also a good time to clean out your chimney. When it gets stopped up, it can combust- similar to gas valves used in many homes.
"If you notice any smells that are out of the ordinary, it's better to go ahead and get a qualified technician to take a look at it," said Danny Oliver with Safe Aire Heating and Cooling.
People with gas heat should purchase a carbon monoxide detector if they don't already have one. It's a harmful, deadly gas that has no smell.
