ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Darton College Men's soccer team have already won the region 17 championship but the Cavs doubled up and also claimed the district championship. Darton beat Spartanburg Methodist 3-0 to clinch their first ever Southeast District Championship. Darton had been ranked 7th in country, one spot ahead of Spartanburg who was ranked 8th.
The win advances Darton to nationals in Texas, where a field of eight teams will battle in a single-elimination tournament to determine a NCJAA Division I champion.
Head coach Bart Sasnett said "Its amazing these guys laid it on the line, they played. One thing we ask of them is that they play the best bit of soccer they've played all year and I think we just did."
Darton will need three wins at nationals to claim a title. The first game is on November 18th.
