ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Albany Police Department is using their new crime fighting tool to warn people about criminal activity in the city.

It's a mobile alert system, we told you about earlier this week, and it was put to use Saturday morning.

A Nixle alert went out warning residents about some car break-ins.

One happened in the 100-block of north Slappey. Sherrie Watkins said broke in her Chevy Equinox and stole a handgun and shoes.

Someone also broke into a vehicle on West Residence Avenue and made off with a wallet.

Both cars were left unlocked.
