ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The holiday shopping season is almost here, retailers expect it to be the best one they've had in several years.

Money is still tight for many shoppers.

A lot of south Georgians have been thinking about this shopping season since last year and saving for it all year.

Southwest Georgians saved millions in Christmas Club accounts and that money is becoming available right now.

2,700 of DOCO's Christmas Club members saved $1.2 million this year.

The holiday savings option is something banks and credit unions say help their members.

"Every November 1st you can make deposits into it, you can do it by payroll deductions or you can come in and make your deposits. The deductions run through the following November the 1st," said Carol Wolfe, Member Services Vice-President.

For the past 3 years DOCO Christmas Club members have surpassed the $1 million mark.
