Cairo, GA (WALB) – You've heard a lot about Roy Barnes and Nathan Deal, but there's a third party candidate on the ballot from our area.
Libertarian candidate John Monds cast his vote in Grady County today.
In 2008, the Cairo native ran for Public Service Commission and became the first Libertarian candidate ever to receive 1 million votes in a United States election at any level. Some polls predict he'll get enough votes to force a runoff between Barnes and Deal in the Governor's race.
"The deck has been stacked against us by the major parties," said Monds. "They don't want competition, they don't want the votes to have choices. And I think that's what's kind of held us back in the past. But I think with the level of dissatisfaction that we have today, voters are waking up and they're looking for alternatives."
Monds brought his four children along to show them how the voting process works. He'll be at Atlanta's Georgian Terrace tonight to hear the election results.
