Suspect arrested in Friday morning murder

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A break in the case of an Albany man who was beaten to death this week. Police say late Friday night a man turned himself in at APD headquarters claiming he murdered 54-year-old Frankie Carr.

The Dougherty County Jail e-mailed a mugshot of 30-year-old Gregory Spann. He's has been charged with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

His arrest comes less than 24-hours after a motorist called 911 after seeing a man beating Carr with a pipe on East Broad Avenue. Carr died a short time later.

Police believe robbery may have been the motive.
