ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Paper medical records will soon be a thing of the past at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The Phoebe Family Medicine Center in Lee County officially made the switch to electronic records. It will take some time to transfer paper records that already exist, but going forward are records will be electronic.

Physicians say it improves patient care especially if a patient needs to see a specialist.

"It is making the quality of care and the continuation of care better once we complete the transition. Like I said we don't have to keep a paper trail, there is more accountability of the time and continuation of care, better coordination with other doctors," said Dr. Samrajya Gogineni of Phoebe Family Medicine Center Lee Co.

Phoebe's Family Care center in Camilla made the switch yesterday. Several other branch offices are expected to make the change in December.

The hospital system hopes all its entities will be on E-records by August.
