ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Insurance agents in Southwest Georgia came together in Albany Tuesday to discuss health reform implementation and learn how to better inform companies and individuals on upcoming changes. The group met at Phoebe East from 8 to 5.
They heard from multiple leaders in the industry including the democratic and republican candidates for Insurance Commissioner. Americus Insurance Agent Russ Childers says the health reform bill is going to affect everyone in the U.S. whether you get insurance through your employer or individually. And as insurance agents it's their job to inform the public during the big switch.
"They need to inform themselves of things and one way to do that is to work with professional insurance representatives that can help them navigate the waters and help them make the right decisions for their families and employees," said Russ Childers, Health Underwriters Former President.
The group included professional insurance producers, agents and brokers. Companies that may benefit clients were also represented. Agents say nothing in the new bill will substantially reduce costs of healthcare or health insurance but it will affect the kind of benefits people qualify for and the level of benefits.
