ALBANY, GA (WALB) – More than 15 million children take care of themselves after the school day ends.

The Albany Y wants parents to know they have a caring and nurturing environment available.

Friday students demonstrated some of their daily activities for community leaders during an open house as part of the national Lights On After School celebration.

It's initiated by The After School Alliance, an organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to affordable, quality after school programs.

149 children are enrolled in the Y's program.

Some of them wrote letters about the impact of the After School program has on their lives.
