ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Prevent Child Abuse Dougherty wants you to be more aware of the signs of child abuse and the resources in the community to help prevent it.

The group is made up mostly of school counselors. They're opening their meetings to anyone who wants to help and encouraging the community not to let the issues fall by the wayside.

They plan to meet the third Thursday of every month.

"That's what we're trying to do is get the community representatives back involved because even though we see the child abuse in the schools we know there are a lot of resources in the community itself that work with our children that can benefit our children and can be a help and support to our children," said Prevent Child Abuse Dougherty Vice Pres. Stacey Cross.

The group wants to be a professional voice in the community to assist students, parents, and staff.

For more information, call Dr. TeShaunda hannor-Waler at 229-431-3390 or 229-483-6300, ext. 7195.
