COLQUITT COUNTY, GA (WALB) - A prisoner from the Colquitt County Correctional Institute ran from a work detail Monday.

Noon Monday, 33-year-old Timothy Metrakos, escaped work duty near Clarence Norman Road and GA 37.

Deputies say he ran through the wood line near railroad tracks north towards Cool Springs Road.

After search efforts from the fugitive squad, a GSP helicopter, and law enforcement, a K-9 unit spotted him around 3:30 on a dirt road near Cool Springs Road.

"It rarely happens," said Colquitt County Sgt. Randy Stephens. "Most of the inmates are pretty well behaved. Every now and then, circumstances will arise and one of them decides to run."

Warden Howell says the last time an inmate escaped was three years ago. The Correctional Institute only accepts minimum or medium security offenders.

Metrakos is booked in the state prison.
