ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Americorps cadets with the Albany Police Department are teaching important safety lessons to kids as young as four.

Monday morning they hosted 60 students from Children's Friend Learning Centers for their Focus on

Youth Program. The kids got to sit inside a real Police Car and see the emergency lights and hear the siren.

Cadets and officers talked about police work and protecting the community and how the children can keep themselves safe.

Albany Police Americorps Cadet Michael Allen said "We teach our youth gun safety and drug awareness. And one of our main objectives is community in action, so we figure this would be a great idea for the youth."

The kids also got to meet McGruff the Crime Dog and have their picture taken with him. The Americorps Cadets are offering field trips like this to youth groups to teach them drug and gun safety.

For information you can call 430-5304.
