ALBANY, GA (WALB) –More internationally known defense contracting companies open Albany offices.  General Dynamics is the latest company to come to town.

They're going after hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts expected at the Albany Marine Base in coming years.

Leaders from Albany, Dougherty County, and Washington, D-C officially welcomed General Dynamics to South Georgia Monday.

The Marine Base is loaded with equipment returned from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Soon the Marine Corps will award contracts to companies that will refurbish the marine war vehicles.

General Dynamics is lining up local companies to help do the work if they win those bids. General Dynamics VP and General Manager Ken Slaght said  "We're putting our team together. We've established the kind of company we're talking about, especially here in Albany. Now the next step is we are going to line up work with the Marine Corps, and put some of those contracts in place."

General Dynamics new office is in the 400 block of Pine Avenue.

The company employs 91,000 people worldwide.

They made much of the equipment the Marine Corps used in Iraq and Afghanistan and are now ready to refurbish it.
