SYLVESTER,  GA (WALB) – A young soldier with Sylvester ties was killed in Afghanistan last week.

20-year-old Private First Class Traimaine Billingsley was riding in a convoy on October 14th when it was struck by an improvised explosive device. The solider and two others were killed.

Billingsley lived in Pennsylvania with his mother and siblings, but his father, grandmother and other aunts and uncles live in Sylvester and Albany. His grandmother told us on the phone that Billingsley had only been in the army for one year.

His father, Travis Billingsley of Sylvester is a retired Navy veteran. Billingsley's brothers are also in the military serving overseas.
