AMERICUS, GA (WALB) – Sumter County Middle school FBLA students took a one hour walk to raise awareness about a deadly disease.

About 50-students from the Future Business Leaders of America participated in a breast cancer ceremony. Cancer survivor Ernestine Carter is the career and FBLA advisor at Sumter Middle, for her the walk holds special meaning.

"It's important to me, because I'm also a two time survivor so it's a blessing just to be here, it's something the kids wanted to do in our organization," said Ernestine Carter, Sumter Middle School FBLA Advisor.

This is the first time the school sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Some of the walkers will also participate in Phoebe-Sumter's Breast Cancer walk Saturday morning.
