Valdosta State defense has their revenge

FLORENCE, AL (WALB) -   The 62 points North Alabama scored last year on Valdosta State haunted the Blazers defense all during the summer.

The Blazers got payback with a 5-0, that score is correct, win Thursday night at Braly Memorial Stadium.

The VSU defense held the Lions to just 101 total yards and North Alabama didn't cross the 50 until a 46 yard punt return in the 4th quarter.

The 5-0 score is the lowest combined score in VSU history and the Blazers held North Alabama to just six first downs in the game.

The fifth lowest total in school history.

The Blazers got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when North Alabama quarterback Lee Chapple recovered his own fumble in the Lions endzone for a safety.

Daniel Anderson kicked a field goal with just over two minutes to play to put the Blazers up by more than a field goal.

The VSU defense stopped the only two Lion scoring threats in the fourth quarter with interceptions.

An interception by Dudley Spence with just over a minute to play sealed the 5th win of the season for the Blazers (5-1, 3-1).

The VSU offense didn't score a touchdown but they became the first team this season to rush for more than 100 yards against the North Alabama defense.

VSU running back David Bailey outgained the entire North Alabama team with 103 yards rushing.

VSU is back at home October 23rd against Arkansas-Monticello.
