Americus, GA (WALB) –   - A man wanted for an Atlanta murder was captured in Americus. Investigators got a tip that Eric Stone was staying with relatives there.

Police surrounded a home on Bessie Mays Circle around 8:00 Tuesday night and took him into custody.

Americus Police Chief James Green said getting Stone off the streets was a top priority.

"Anytime we have someone like that in the community, they become a threat," said Green. "They've already shown the potential to hurt people, no regard for life if there was a child in the car and to fire on a female that were not involved, that shows an extreme indication for the potential of violence."

Stone is accused of robbing an Atlanta Texaco station last month with an AK-47 assault rifle.

One man was shot and killed, a pregnant woman and a two year old were shot but survived.
