LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) –A man was killed on I-75 in Lowndes County Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his SUV and crashed.

The wreck happened just after 1 pm at exit 29 in the northbound lanes.

Troopers say 41 year old James Dwight Plymel of Sparks was headed North on 75 when he ran off the shoulder of the road and lost control.

His SUV became airborne and landed nose first about 30 feet off the interstate.

Witnesses told troopers they saw him driving wrecklessly and watched as he hit a retaining wall and couple of times before he crashed.

"He jumped a rolled back wrecker that was hauling a grand jeep cherokee and he cleared both of those vehicles landed on the other side of Highway 122 impacted with the front end and rolled end over end and landed on the back on it's wheels facing northbound," said Trooper Jeremy Kinsey with the Georgia State Patrol.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why he was driving erratically and crashed.
