ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  More than 800 pages of emails exchanged between government officials over the firing of Albany's Shirley Sherrod were released Friday.

The emails show Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack was warned that he may not have had the full story as he stuck by his July decision to oust Sherrod. Sherrod emailed Vilsack from a Georgia roadside pleading not to be fired.

The emails show Vilsack acted hastily after learning an edited clip of Sherrod making what initially appeared to be racist remarks had made its way into the media. Vilsack has acknowledged he acted too quickly. He apologized to Sherrod and offered her a new job that she later turned down.
