TIFTON, GA (WALB) – Roy Barnes says if Georgia schools were in better shape and If the state hadn't cut so much money from education he wouldn't be running for governor again.

Wednesday afternoon he met with teachers in Tifton and told them he's committed to improving schools throughout the state.

He wants to empower teachers, cut furlough days, and eventually reduce class sizes.

"Everybody has seen what happened in the past few years where we've had four billion in cuts to educate our children. I wouldn't be running again if education had been protected and the reform efforts that we had put in were continued," Roy Barnes, (D) Gubernatorial Candidate.

Election Day is now less than a month away.

Barnes and Republican candidate Nathan Deal will face off in a debate hosted by WALB on October 19th at 7.
