ALBANY, GA (WALB) – More than 200 people have applied for 8 firefighter jobs with the Albany Fire Department.

Some of those applicants are from other countries.  The job's only been advertised a few weeks.

The city is also currently interviewing applicants for the six job openings in the 9-1-1 center, and are inviting more people to apply for those jobs.

Albany Fire Department Chief James Carswell said "The way we can assure getting quality people is to have a large group of people to choose from. "

The city will continue accepting applications for the firefighter jobs for at least 30 more days. They hope to fill those openings and start training by the first of the year, so they can begin service by March.

If you are interested in applying for these jobs, you can link to the city human resources department here.
