ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Election day is four weeks from today and candidates are picking up the pace in their campaigns.

Republican Insurance Commissioner candidate Ralph Hudgens campaigned Tuesday in Albany.

He represents areas around Athens in the State Senate and chairs the Senate Insurance Committee.

Hudgens says his free market and capitalist values separate him from outgoing Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine.

"We need to bring more insurance companies in to Georgia so I'm going to ease the regulation of them coming. I'm going to make sure they're still solvent. One of the responsibilities of the insurance commissioner is to make sure the companies live up to there contractual obligations. The more people we have bidding for your business, the better deal you're going to get," said Hudgens.

Hudgens lived in Bainbridge for 12 years and still owns property there.

He'll face Democrat Mary Squires in the general election.
