ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Albany city commissioners will hold a hearing to decide whether to issue a liquor license to a business on the east side of town.

Alex Rowe wants to build a liquor store at the corner of Oglethorpe and Radium Springs Road. A vacant building is there right now.

Opponents say the liquor store would be too close to Albany State University and a church. But measurements show the distance between the sites is far more than required by local ordinance.

"That area is just not subjective, and where we would want to place a liquor store,"  said City Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard.

"All of the objective standards that have been set forth by this commission through its ordinances that it has adopted, APH enterprises has met," said Rowe's Attorney Christopher Cohilas.

Both sides will make their arguments to commissioners their October 26th meeting.
