CAIRO, GA (WALB) –A gas line that ignited last week and killed a Cairo city worker is now repaired.

Traffic is once again allowed through the area, but the official cause of that deadly explosion is still unknown.

A makeshift memorial for 35-year old Wendell Harrison now stands at the blast site on 4th Avenue and 4th Street Northwest.

The City of Cairo requested that Thomasville Utilities employees complete the pipeline repairs after the Georgia Public Service commission finished gathering evidence for their ongoing investigation.

Bill Edge, the spokesperson for the Georgia Public Service Commission told us, "At this time, the PSC staff is in communication with federal pipeline safety officials both in Washington and Atlanta district offices to share information and to coordinate the investigation."

The final report explaining the cause of the explosion could take months to finish.

Cairo city leaders continue to decline interviews about the incident.
