WORTH COUNTY, GA (WALB) – An surprise for dozens of parishioners this weekend after thieves targeted at least 3 churches in Worth County.

Friday night someone stole copper out of their AC units making for uncomfortable services Sunday morning.

We were at service at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, members used fans to stay cool. All four of their units were damaged, each about $4,000.

The pastor told us despite the crime, its members are praying for the thieves.

"I want to say to the perpetrators, and I assume you were guys, you did a good job, and I wanted to let them to know the sermon today was on forgiveness," said Pastor Larry James, Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

The pastor says about three years ago someone tried to damage the units but were likely scared off.

They will now get security cameras installed, and will file an insurance claim to replace the units.

If you know anything about the thefts call the Worth County Sheriff's office.
