VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta State football team is coming off their first shutout win of the season last week. This game matches up two 1-1 teams in the Gulf South Conference and the loser is in big trouble in the race for the Gulf South title.

The Blazers defense faces a big challenge this week when VSU hosts Ouachita Baptist for homecoming.

Ouachita brings an offense to Bazemore-Hyder Stadium that is averaging 44 points a game.

Head coach David Dean says the Tigers are so good on offense because of their quarterback Eli Cranor has a quick release from the pocket on his passes.

Dean says the Blazers have to win the third battle on both sides of the football this weekend.

David Dean said. "We have got to be productive on third downs. So, we have got to sustain drives. Run 4-5 minutes off the clock. Even if we don't score, we cannot allow that very good offense to get out there. We can't get into a shootout with them. We are looking for a very low scoring game."

VSU has won nine of ten games against the Tigers but Ouachita's first win came last year.

Game time is 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Valdosta.
