CAIRO, GA (WALB) – A Cairo utility worker was killed this morning in a gas main explosion.
The blast happened just before noon Tuesday near 4th Street and 4th Avenue.
Utility Worker Wendell Harrison was killed in the explosion in the residential area.
Several other utility workers were burned and are at a Tallahassee hospital.
City workers were in the process of warning people to get out of the area because of a gas main leak, when it exploded and burst into flames.
The explosion happened in a residential area.
