ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The top man in Georgia's House of Representatives endorses a political newcomer in Albany.
House Speaker David Ralston came to Albany Friday to endorse Karen Kemp in the House District 150 race. She's trying to unseat Democrat Winfred Dukes. Kemp and Ralston say creating jobs in Georgia is job one. Both support a tax reform council working right now to grow companies in Georgia.
"I think our state tax code so impact job creation here in the state. I think what we need to look at is making our tax code here in Georgia flatter and fairer so that we can move the rates down so we don't punish productivity and punish income," said Rep. David Ralston, (R)-Speaker of the House.
"I'm not going to say I have a magic bullet that can fix our problem, but I do believe there are certain things we can do first and foremost we've got to retain existing jobs in Dougherty County. We've lost thousands of jobs we can't afford to lose another one," said Karen Kemp, (R)-State Representative Candidate.
Kemp says if she's elected she'll talk with current employers to see what more needs to be done to keep them in southwest Georgia.
