Area unemployment goes up again

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Georgia Department of Labor released the latest unemployment numbers for metropolitan areas Thursday.

The Albany area rate rose a tenth of a point in August to 10.9%. Lee County is included in the metro area. It's rate of 7.9%, one of the ten lowest in the state, brought the metro rate down. Dougherty County's unemployment stands at 12%.

Telfair County has the worst unemployment in the state, 21%. The rate in Oconee County near Athens is lowest at 6.5%. The state average is now 10%.
