Saturday they're giving you a chance to dispose of your old prescription pills safely.

Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful is teaming with Albany Police, Dougherty County Police, the Sheriff's Office, and Drug Unit to host Operation Pill Drop Saturday at the Civic Center.

Police say prescription drugs are the nation's fastest growing drug problem. They want to keep those drugs away from abusers.  But they say you shouldn't flush medication because water treatment plants are not made to handle those chemicals.

Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful Executive Director Judy Bowles said "So when that water is cleaned and put back into your water for consumption again, nationally they are finding traces of drugs in the water supply."

Operation Pill Drop will be from 10 to 2 Saturday in the front parking lot at the Albany Civic Center. Officials say you don't have to pull your prescription information off the bottle, it will be disposed of to guard your privacy.
