ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Museums around the country are opening their doors free of charge this weekend.

Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany is taking part in the celebration.  It's a way to introduce people who may not otherwise venture to the center to experience all it has to offer.  This Saturday only (September 25th), you can visit the Planetarium for free with a special pass.

Last year, more than 300,000 people took advantage of free trips to museums across the country.

Director Tommy Gregors said, "This is just an opportunity for us to showcase that, get people out and maybe encourage some people that might not come out this Saturday and maybe are looking for something to do to have an opportunity to experience for free and then start coming more often, purchase a membership and do other things and just really appreciate what we have to offer."

In order to get in free of charge, you have to print out a special pass from the Smithsonian's website.
