ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Public health officials want you to know we're entering peak West Nile Virus season. The disease is spread through mosquitoes.
District Health Director Jacqueline Grant says there are some simple things you can do to reduce your chances of contracting the virus. "Using mosquito repellent when you're going to be outside, avoiding the peak hours of mosquito biting dawn and dusk and eliminating ports of entry into your house like holes in screens and eliminating free standing water."
Most people who get the virus don't actually get very sick, but West Nile can be deadly in the elderly and people with underlying health problems.
