ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  It's not July 4th, but there was an Independence Day celebration Tuesday at Albany High School.

The Foreign Language Club celebrated Independence Day for the Latin American counties of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Students held a poster contest and were quizzed on Latin American culture to get a new perspective on cultures where people speak Spanish.

"With the growing Spanish speaking population in Albany it's very important that they're aware of their holidays and you know their celebrations," said Anedith Clark, Albany High Foreign Language Teacher.

Students got the chance to sample food popular in Latin America and even broke a Pinata as part of the celebration.
