ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Students, Parents, and Teachers at a Lee County Elementary School set a goal to walk a thousand miles Friday.

Late Friday afternoon, they exceeded that goal walking and running 1,774 miles combined. We caught up with fifth graders on a track set up in the bus parking lot at Twin Oaks Elementary. September 17th is National Run at Work Day. Last year, students walked or ran 881 miles. Principal Jason Miller says the students get a real kick out of it.

"We say four laps but most of them do five, six, eight they're really excited and for some reason they always want to run with the principal or beat the principal which is not hard to do, so they have fun with that," said Dr. Jason Miller, Twin Oaks Principal.

The school uses the day to promote good health and fitness for students and faculty and their families.
