ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Thousands of Georgia National Guard troops are on duty in Afghanistan, but one of those troops is happy to be home with his family.

After loosing more than 200 pounds a Army National guardsman got his wish to enlist and serve his country.

Anthony Hanson returned to Albany on leave, we introduced you to Hanson a couple of years ago.

He was so determined to serve his country, he lost more than 200 pounds so he could join the Guard.

He says being a part of the National Guard is all he thought it would be.

"I'm meeting a lot of fantastic people in Afghanistan, making friends I never though I would meet, the people love us over there," said Anthony Hanson, National Guardsman.

"I miss him and it's hard to take care of myself and I realize how much I take for granted but I wouldn't have it any other way he answered his calling and I can't stand in the way of that," Kathie Hanson, Wife.

Hanson has gained some of the weight back, he says he's trying to lose about 50 pounds.
